With Thanksgiving turkey out of the way, wrestling practices should be getting easier. During November, practices are a little tougher because the Thanksgiving meal makes it harder to meet weight requirements. However, after Christmas, every wrestler is allowed to be two pounds over weight so wrestlers don’t have to lose as much weight in order to wrestle in their desired weight class.
According to coach Than Underwood, the size of the team has greatly diminished, and only two new wrestlers have joined the team: Caleb Israel, soph., and Hunter Doshier, fr.
A new season can mean some newer and tougher opponents. The team is comprised of one senior, Kyle Sherwood; five juniors, Casey Veith, Chaz Robinson, Colby Arnone, Isaac Mounts and Luke Walker; two sophomores, Evan Tackett and Caleb Israel; and one freshman, Hunter Doshier. According to Underwood, the team doesn’t necessarily have a captain, rather a multitude of leaders made up by the the senior and juniors.
The first wrestling meet occurs on Saturday, Dec. 7. Varsity wrestles at Flint Hills at 8:45 a.m. while junior varsity wrestles at McPherson at 9 a.m..
