Yesterday wrapped up Central Plains League action for Spring sports teams and Cheney High School finished at or near the top in all!
The boys’ golf team competed in the CPL Tournament hosted at the Anthony Lake Golf Course in Anthony. The team finished as CPL Runner Up, 14 strokes behind League Champ Trinity Academy. Junior Isaiah Grover shot a 76 and won a playoff to repeat as CPL Individual Champion! The team travels to Plains for the 3A Regional hosted by Southwestern Heights on Monday. State qualifiers will compete at Cherry Oaks on Tuesday, May 27th. Good luck to the golf team as they continue in the postseason.
The softball team wrapped up an undefeated march through the CPL with a sweep of Medicine Lodge yesterday, 8-0 and 6-3. This is the second consecutive league title for the Cardinals. They finish the regular season at 18-2 and Cheney will host the Regional tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Fairgrounds. Cheney’s first game will be Monday night at 6:30. The Regional winner advances to the State Tournament in Topeka, May 29 and 30. Good luck ladies!
The Track and Field teams had strong showings at the CPL meet hosted by Bluestem on Thursday. The girls team finished with 118 points as League Runner Up and the boys team were CPL Champs with 115 points. The teams will compete in Regional at Cimarron on Friday May 23 and then continue to the State track meet at WSU on May 30 and 31. Good luck to both teams!
