Gabby Lavington, CHS Senior, signed a national letter of intent with Kansas State University to become a member of the Track and Field team. She is the second girls track team member at Cheney High School to sign a Division I scholarship offer in as many days.
Lavington began her high school career on the track as a member of a 5th place state finishing and school record setting 4x100m relay team. Her sophomore year she focused on throwing events, specifically shot put and finished 8th at the state meet. Her junior season proved to be a true breakout year in which she was the CPL champion (and league record holder), Regional champion and State champion. Gabby’s throw of 45’10 1/4 was a new State Meet record. Her personal record in a meet last season was 46′ 11 3/4. This summer she traveled to New Mexico to compete in a national meet and finished 3rd, behind the top two ranked throwers in the country.
Gabby chose Kansas State over Oregon, Harvard and Kansas University. While in Manhattan, she plans to major in Human Resources. Pictured with Gabby are her parents Randy and Jeanine Lavington (seated) and CHS Track coaches Randy Weber (left) and Rich Simmons.
