Girls Golf – 2013
State Champions! We set that as our final goal each golf season. Improve each day, be competitive, place as a team in each tournament, win league, win regional, and then win state. With five returning members of the state runner-up finish from last year, and adding other players to improve our talent and depth, the final goal came into place in mid-October as the team was able to earn the title of KSHSAA Class 3A-1A State Golf Champions.
Our four seniors provided the leadership, organization, and drive towards the ultimate goal of a state championship. Brooklyn Lonker and Taylor Wheelock mentioned winning state many times during the golf season and used the summer as well as the seasons before to help prepare, compete, and lead the team. Brooklyn was a four year member of the golf team, improving each season to earn the ultimate personal award of being the Individual State Champion. Taylor joined the team after her freshmen year and brought a competitive attitude and practice effort to the team and was able to medal at the state tournament. Bailie Busher also joined us after her freshmen year and steadily improved to make her senior year her best in terms scoring and contributing to the team. Brooke Fischer took a year off from golf during her junior year and came back for her senior season to contribute her steady play and was a great impact towards the championship season.
This year’s team earned the title of State Champions, which was made possible by the combined efforts of our four seniors. I would like to personally thank them for their guidance that helps make this past season one to remember.
