Cheney completed the sweep of Chaparral behind another solid pitching performance by Kauy Kuhn. The junior pitcher came into the game with a league- leading .81 earned run average. His era improved after allowing only 1 hit and no runs in a 5 inning, 14-0 run rule. Kuhn needed only 67 pitches of which 42 were strikes. Kuhn struck out 6 and walked one. The Cheney offense gave Kuhn plenty of support as they continued their hit parade with 15 hits including 4 extra base hits. Lakin Petz picked up where he left off in game 1. After going 3-4 in game 1 he added another 3 hits and 5 rbi in game 2. Petz was one hit short of a cycle with a single, double, and triple. Dawson Winter and Micah Grover added another 2 hits and 2 rbi’s each.
With the doubleheader sweep, the Cardinals finished the regular season with a 17-3 record and secured at least a 1st place tie with Trinity Academy atop the Central Plains League with an 11-1 League record. They also clinched the #1 seed in the 3a regional which starts next Monday. Cheney is the host for the regional following 1st round play. Games in Cheney will begin at 2pm Wednesday with the Cardinals likely playing the winner of The 1st round game between Chaparral and Belle
