Cheney defeated Haven in the Regional Final by run rule in six innings to advance to the State Tournament, 11-1, at the Cheney Sports Complex. Dawson Winter shut down the Wildcat bats all evening and the defense played well behind him when needed. Winter gave up 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 8 over 6 innings of work. The Cardinal offense benefitted early from some erratic pitching and then the bats came alive as Cheney pounded out 14 hits. The biggest blow came in the 4th inning as Cheney had a 2-0 lead when Micah Grover hit a three run home run to left center to open up a 5-0 lead. Corbin Meireis had three hits and scored twice. Trenton Canaan also had two hits and reached base three times.
Cheney will advance to the State tournament in Manhattan next week with a record of 20-3. This is the second trip to State in the three year history of the program.
