Dawson Canaan made his first start of the season on the mound for the Cardinals after missing all of 2018 recovering from a knee injury. After batting through a walk, 3 hits, and 2 Cheney errors in the first inning, Canaan settled in and shut down the Broncos for the next 3 innings. The Cheney junior finished with 6k’s, 3 bb, 3 hits, 1 earned run in picking up the win. Zac Block relieved Canaan in the 5th and pitched around more errors by the Cheney defense to only allow 2 unearned runs. Block struck out 3 , walked 2 , and only allowed 1 hit. Noah Fullerton made short work of the 7th inning, needing only 12 pitches in striking out 2 and inducing a weak fly out. At the plate, Ben Klinkerman continued his hot hitting going 4-4 with a double and 3rbi’s. Klinkerman is 14 for his last 22 at bats going back to last Monday. Chayan Fox also sparked the Cheney offense with a couple big 2 out hits. Fox went 3-3 with 3 rbi’s.
