Cheney lost game 1 in a great pitchers duel with Trinity Academy on Monday 1-0. Dawson Winter had 10 k’s and 1 walk for the Cardinals but was matched by Trinity’s Nate Adler who struck out 9 Cardinal batters, 4 walks in picking up the win 1-0. The only scoring came in the bottom of the 6th inning. After striking out the first 2 batters, Winter got a swinging strike 3 on a 1-2 curve ball in the dirt. The ball got away from Cheney catcher Trent Canaan and Jake Mckenzie reached 1st base. After a foul ball, Nate Adler hit a single to center advancing Mckenzie to 3rd. Winter then got ahead 0-2 on the next hitter and threw another breaking ball in the dirt that was blocked by Canaan but rolled away just enough to allow Mckenzie to score after getting a great jump on the ball in the dirt. Cheney loaded the bases with 2 outs in the top of the 7th with senior Kauy Kuhn at the plate. Kuhn hit a sharp grounder up the middle that was snagged by Adler to end the game.
