Cheney senior Dawson Winter had his best performance of the year on Monday night in an 11-0 shutout win over Kingman. Winter struck out 8 an allowed only 1 hit in picking up his 5th win of the year. Kingmans only baserunners came in the first two batters of the game. Leadoff hitter Michial Milford was hit by a 3-2 fastball and was picked off 4 pitches later. Kingman junior Gage Oller then hit a high popup on the right side of the infield that Cheney second baseman Zac Block lost in the sun. The ball fell untouched for a single. Oller would be stranded after a flyout and a strikeout. Winter wouldn’t allow another baserunner in the 5 inning run-rule shortened game.
The Cheney offense jumped out early with 4 runs in the first. After Kauy Kuhn and Harrison Voth singles and a Winter walk, Ben Klinkerman hit a fielders choice to bring home Kuhn for the first run. Klinkerman was then thrown out attempting to steal. Trenton Reitmayer walked bringing Block to the plate. Block made up for his first inning miscue with a 2 out rbi single to right. Landon Gegen then came up and worked the count to 3-2 before driving a ball off the bottom of the left field wall, plating Reitmayer and Block. The Cheney bats then opened up in the 3rd inning. Scoring 7 runs on 7 hits and 2 Kingman errors highlighted by a 2 run single by senior Chayan Fox and a 2 run double by Kuhn.
