The Cheney High School Girls golf team qualified for next weeks 3-1A State Tournament by placing third at the Russell regional on Monday, October 14th. Competing on a different course with hills and sloped greens the Lady Cards kept their scores very close to the season averages. After a long day and different weather changes and the final scores were tabulated the Lady Cards are State Bound. Junior Jalyn Turner turned in one of her best rounds of the season with a 97 which earned her a 3rd place medal. With a score of 108 junior Halley Jones earned the 8th place medal. Contributing with other scores were junior Morgan Sutter and freshman Kaitlyn Fowler both at 124, junior Natalie Burdick 131, and sophomore Ashlyn Riggs 138. The 3-1A State tournament will be held at Salina Municipal Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, October 21st and 22nd. To play the second day the golfers must have qualifying scores from the first day of play.
